The Giant Co. will open a new store June 19 in the Andorra Shopping Center at 701 Cathedral Road in Philadelphia. The nearly 50,000-square-foot store will add more than 160 full- and part-time jobs to the community. "The opening of our newest Giant in the City of Brotherly Love reflects our continued commitment to serving a Philadelphia that continues to grow and thrive – especially as the city prepares for a landmark summer ahead," said John Ruane, president of The Giant Co. Christina McAdams, a 25-year grocery veteran, has been appointed store manager. As part of the opening-day celebration, the first 200 customers will receive a Giant reusable shopping bag filled with product samples and other grand opening savings. "Just in time for summer celebrations, our team is ready to serve customers no matter how they want to shop with us – whether it’s in-store or online," McAdams said. "From convenient amenities, enhanced product variety and everyday savings, we can’t wait to bring the Giant shopping experience to the Andorra community." Shoppers will find Giant’s signature fresh departments, including a large, market-feel produce department with dedicated space for organics; meat and seafood; service deli with pre-sliced meats and cheeses; dairy; bakery; full-service floral; and a separate healthy, natural and organic section covering fresh and frozen products. The store also features a hot food bar with smoked and barbecue meats, pre-packed salad offerings in the deli, a specialty cheese case and an in-store sushi chef. It also offers a large beer and wine area featuring an assortment of wine slushies and ready-to-drink cocktails, along with a full-service Starbucks coffee kiosk. Both are located on an elevated mezzanine overlooking the store.
